El Gobiernu galés publicó la propuesta de la nueva llei de llingües, cola que según el Partíu Nacionalista Galés, los falantes van tener drechos por primer vez na historia.
La llei propuesta estrena les competencies del Senedd, el parllamentu galés, en polítiques llingüístiques. Ún de los primeros efectos va ser la sustitución de la Welsh Language Board por un comisariu pola llingua, que va ser el que va trabayar pa la promoción del usu del galés.
Otres midíes que pretenden ye la obligación de los organismos públicos y de les empreses privaes de determinaos sectores -distribución de gas, agua y electricidá, servicios de bus y tren, alcantarelláu y telecomunicaciones- d'ufiertar los sos servicios en llingua galesa, con pena de sanción en casu de nun cumplir los mínimos esixíos.
Tamién preve'l mecanismu según el cual los ciudadanos, al traviés del comisariu pa la llingua, puedan presentar quexes en casu de que s'atente contra los sos drechos llingüísticos.
Según el líder del Plaid Cymru, Ieuan Wyn Jones, la midida propuesta va significar una diferencia real p'aquellos que quieren utilizar la llingua nel día a día, “un coleutivu que va tener drechos por primera vegada na historia, lo que namás pue llevar a una mayor igualdá y una nación que tea más cómoda coles sos dos llingües”.
La propuesta de llei va ser sometida agora a una serie de discutinios na Asamblea de Gales, onde los diputaos van poder pidir les aclaraciones y facer les enmiendes que creen convenientes.
Ente les voces crítiques d'esta midida atópase Cymdeithas yr Iaith Gymraeg (la Welsh Language Society), una histórica organización cívica de defensa de la llingua galesa, la cual considera que la llei ye una meyora pero llamenta que se quede corta tocantes a al sector priváu. Cymdeithas, que caltién un discursu principalmente positivu sobre la llei, echa de menos midíes nos comercios, “porque son una parte bien grande del nuesu día a día”.
